God Expectations!

Knowing the “job description” always makes success on the job more likely. I mean, you need to know the expectation if you are going to measure up and get the raise, right? Now don’t get excited here. Your paycheck for being the greatest mom/dad/wife/husband isn’t about to increase! Wouldn’t that be nice! Ha! But—the satisfaction of knowing WHAT you should be doing makes success more attainable. The good news is that God is clear on His expectations of each family and each family member. Time in the Word of God (The Bible) will enlighten you on those facts. I’m going to throw out 3 clear God-expectations here for your consideration. It’s a place to start!

  1. Be Responsible! What God has given us, He expects us to be responsible for (to “tend”). We will each answer for how we navigated family life and how we took responsibility for what we were given—in people AND in things! (Genesis 1:28, 2:15)

  2. Establish Your Home on Godly Principles! (And then obey the principles that are established! Stick by them! Be persistent in staying the course!) Read Deuteronomy 6:5-9. There’s blessing in obedience! Proverbs 3:33 “....he blesses the home of the upright.”

  3. Lead Out Of Godly Wisdom! If you don’t have wisdom, ask for it! God promises to answer. (James 1:5) Examine the book of Proverbs in the Bible and see how many times the writer proclaims the need for and the value of wisdom. We do not have to wonder what to do. We only need to inquire of God.

As I said, this is a great place to start! God doesn’t leave us to figure it all out on our own. (I’m saying, “THANK GOD”! Because, I am NOT able to do family-life, successfully, without HIS help!) This isn’t the exhaustive list either. Be a student of the Word. God leads us in every role we are to fill, whether that’s as a wife, mother, husband, father, or even a child. He instructs in all. We are not alone! That is GOOD NEWS! Examine your “job description” and get to it!
