In the Song of Solomon, (the Bible’s love and marriage book) is full of get-away ideas.
In the Song of Solomon, (the Bible’s love and marriage book) the relationship of Solomon and his bride is filled with “get aways”…times to come away…to pull away from the routine of life and to spend concentrated, focused time together as a couple.
“Come, my lover, let us go to the countryside, and let us spend the night in the villages.” Song of Solomon 7:11
“Take me with you; come, let’s run!” Song of Solomon 1:4
“Come away with me, my fair one!” Song of Solomon 2:10,13
Come away, my love!” Song of Solomon 8:14
These “get-away’s” are characterized with excitement and anticipation by both involved. So, if these times are so richly exemplified in this beautiful book in the Bible, can we take get-aways lightly as married couples? Multiple studies prove that date nights and get-aways lead to more satisfaction with marriage, greater sexual satisfaction in the relationship, a strengthened stability and quality overall and ultimately lower divorce rates. This needed time proves beneficial because it allows for refocus and rest from the “cares of life” mentioned in Mark 4. Jesus endorsed time away even in His ministry. See Mark 6:30-32 and 45-46, Luke 5:15-16, Mark 1:35. The “get-away principle” is the same. Refocus and rest are important. The ordinary and the routine are comfortable and sometimes necessary to help us achieve our daily responsibilities. However, these same things can weary us and rob our lives of the vitality and LIFE (John 10:10) that God intended for us—even when we are busy doing the good and the right things. One writer put it this way: “We must sometimes escape the oppression of the ordinary.” Find some time to get-away with your spouse! Let your call be….. “Come, my love, let us go to the countryside, and let us spend the night in the villages.” (Or maybe just dinner and a movie——or a breakfast date——or a trip for ice cream or coffee) Get a plan! Start somewhere! You will come to anticipate your dates with the excitement of Solomon and his bride!
