It all starts at home
Have you ever thought about the fact that there are no neutral home environments?
Either our spouse and children see Christ as one part of our compartmentalized life OR they see that Christ IS our life. In Philippians 1:21, Paul said “For to me, living means living for Christ…”. Do our lives so live for Christ that our children (and anyone else for that matter) know that all of our life is wrapped up in God—His ways, His principles, and that “in Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)? We aren’t saying that we are to live some super religious facade that checks off a religious to-do lists. What we ARE saying is that we can model and intertwine godly principles into the context of our everyday life. We can stay in constant conversation with God throughout the day, invite Him into all situations and decisions and invite discussions in our home of things like movies and songs and how the agendas of our day may intersect with the Bible. What do our children see in us? Is the environment of our home one where godly character, visible love, truth, honesty, integrity, and healthy examples of problem solving and conflict resolution are being modeled? Do they see healthy expressions of emotion? We can’t tell our kids how to live. We must show them how to live! Let’s make sure our home environment screams Jesus and all His ways! Let us be able to say with boldness, “Follow our example as we follow the example of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1
