Trouble. Chaos. Misunderstandings. These are all part of life, but they shouldn’t be a way of life! The culture of our homes isn’t meant to be one of underlying tension, unsettledness, and strife. Our assertiveness must be high and our avoidance low as we are aware of conflicts. What have you refused to deal with that continues to create havoc in your home? Why do you pretend that all is well when you know it isn’t? I think we’ve often misunderstood Matthew 5:9 when Jesus calls us to be “peacemakers”. We’ve become “peacekeepers”, instead, at all costs; ignoring issues and problems for the sake of peace. However, there’s a difference between a peacemaker and a peacekeeper. Sometimes the route to peace in your home is in saying something, doing something, and being assertive in addressing what needs to be addressed. That may not always seem “peaceful” at the onset; but the end result can be a resolution to those things that have drained the life, joy, and enjoyment out of your home! Acknowledge conflicts and begin the work required to find resolutions. Remember—-conflict is a part of life, but shouldn’t be your way of life!
